We know that Asus will be launching its hugely anticipated ZenFone 2 smartphone sometime during the second quarter of 2015 in India. As we wait to get our hands on the device there's some fresh news coming in from Asus that is surely going to please potential buyers.
The company has just revealed to us that the ZenFone 2 smartphone when available in India will be up for grabs via open sale. This means buyers won't have to go through the grueling ordeal of flash sales or invite systems to buy the ZenFone 2.
The company has been exclusively selling its devices via Flipkart, the same online retailer that sells Xiaomi devices. Notably, Xiaomi was the first to introduce the flash sale model in India, something that was later aped by others like Micromax.
The same online retailer also sells Motorola devices in India, however, sans the flash sale model though. One of the primary reasons driving Motorola sales in India, apart from its aggressive pricing is the fact that its devices are available via open sale.
Although, Xiaomi and Micromax (Yu Yureka) are able to sell their devices in the blink of an eye via the model, it is particularly taxing for buyers who find it grueling and frustrating, to say the least. Put simply, the flash sale model is not something buyers cherish.
Also, OnePlus One's invite-only sales system is confusing and leads to more people failing to get an invite for a device that is otherwise quite impressive on paper as well as usage.
Asus deciding to stay clear of both the flash sale and invite-based system and instead opting for open sale for the ZenFone 2 is indeed a welcome one at that, especially since the device looks pretty well-endowed on paper. Of course we'll have to wait for the detailed review to make a clear statement on how it fairs in day to day usage.
To add to the hype, Asus has also said that "the Zenfone 2 will be taking on Samsung S6 and Apple's recent launches". Whether or not it will succeed is a question only time can answer.
As far as specifications are concerned, the ZenFone 2 features a 5.5-inch full-HD IPS capacitive touchscreen display with a 1080x1920 pixels resolution. It is powered by a 2.3GHz quad-core Intel Atom Z3580 CPU coupled with 4GB RAM.
It comes with 16/32/64 GB internal storage expandable up to 64GB via microSD. It sports a 13MP rear autofocus camera with dual-LED (dual tone) flash and a 5MP front snapper. It is backed by a 3000 mAh battery.
